Heather Popkey (she/her)

As a therapist, I believe everyone deserves to receive the help and services they are entitled to regardless of their history and that everyone is capable of putting in the effort needed to create the changes they seek. My goal is to affirm and empower my clients throughout their personal journeys. Through a collaborative relationship, I strive to create a positive space for clients to feel encouraged and motivated to continue seeking mental health care. 

I obtained my BSW from Eastern Michigan University in 2014 and completed my MSW at the University of Michigan in 2020. In the beginning of my career, I worked at a small non-profit in Ann Arbor providing case management, employment, and housing support to a diverse population of individuals.  

For the last 10 years, I have worked with a community-based mental health provider and within a jail, providing care and support to individuals with severe and persistent mental illnesses. These include bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder, depression, anxiety, and individuals who have experienced trauma, loss and grief in many varying ways.  

My clinical focuses include depression, anxiety, trauma, grief/loss, relationship conflict, and addiction. I also specialize in working with justice involved individuals. I have completed trainings in DBT, CBT, trauma, grief and loss. I am always looking to add more tools to my own toolbox-to help fill yours!  Life can be full of challenges and sometimes we need someone to talk to for us to feel like ourselves again. As a trauma-informed therapist, I believe in providing each of my clients with a nonjudgmental stance, empathy, and a caring attitude through their toughest moments.
